Sick Days and Birthdays
On Monday I took a sick day. I woke up with a sore throat and spent the rest of the day feeling like I'd been run over by a truck. I think that the jet lag I had been so carefully outrunning finally caught up with me when I had a minute to sit down. I've been cramming so much into every day because of the limited amount of time I have, that my body must have gotten a little worn out and given me the high sign to give it a rest. Literally. So I spent most of the day taking naps and drinking the 7-Up my grandmother kept feeding me, and by the next day I felt much better. Grandmas know best after all.
Tuesday I was back to my old schedule. I went to my other grandparent's house, Martha and Raul, for a lunch my grandma was throwing for all the cousins. So we all ate a ridiculous amount (again), and then went out to try to walk some of it off. I love all the walking! It makes me feel like selling my car and walking everywhere. And then I remember that the distances in Los Angeles are actually a little bigger than here, and I change my mind. I bought some souvenirs, went into different stores my 13 and 15 year old cousins assured me were the best, and of course stopped at a confiteria for an afternoon coffee.
Today was Ubaldo's birthday. He's my grandmother's boyfriend as you will recall from previous posts. So my grandmother and I headed over to Puerto Madero to meet up with him and other family members. Puerto Madero is the port town of Buenos Aires. It has a hundred and one restaurants and nightclubs, as well as cafes and offfices. You can sit at any of them and look out at all the sailboats that are stopped there. Today was cloudy so there weren't many people out with their boats, but it was gorgeous nonetheless. After lunch we all walked around the pier area for a couple of hours, but had to duck into the car when it started to rain. Rain in the summer, I haven't decided if I like this yet.

The ability to walk everywhere sounds divine! Cherish those moments, because, as we all know, Los Angeles eats pedestrians.. Hope the trip continues to hold all the experiences you were hoping it would :)
Love, Katharine
Yes, walking is good. I'm living back in Downtown LA as of Wednesday, so now I walk to work, and I'm right around the corner from my bar and several stores, mini-marts, and cafes. When you get back to SoCal, I'll show you around my 'hood. Too bad I can't see any sailboats from my loft.
