Christmas Come Early
Mathieu got called away to work for the week in Germany (this is what happens when you're an important engineer), so we woke up early to see him off. And then promptly fell back asleep. :) Jet lag takes ya the minute you let it, and boy did we let it. We finally got up when the phone rang at around 1pm. It was the airline letting us know that our luggage was in Paris, and that they would be stopping by to drop it off that night.
We decided to kill some time by investigating our surroundings. We walked around Gentilly, saw a beautiful church (there are a lot of those), and ended up at a cafe across the street from the apartment. We also bought our weekly Metro passes or cartes oranges, and I got a chance to test out my rusty French for the first time. Not too bad!
Our bags came at 5pm. The excitement I felt at having my own belongings was inexplicable! Jill described it best when she said it was like Christmas, but opening stuff you already owned. How happy I was to see all my warm clothes! The only way to celebrate this new arrival was of course to go out into town. We ended up at Rue Mouffetard, a lively row of restaurants and bars full of waiters in the small alley streets beckoning people to come inside. We ended up inside a Mexican style place. Afterwards we hopped the Metro to one of Jill's old haunts, Spudnik. It's a cool bar with computers available for tourists (and locals I'm sure) to check emails and send home messages of love. Messages of love to everyone!
