Why Everything From the U.S. Is In Fact, Not Golden
A while ago I talked about the Argentine fascination with all things from the United States. (Here. Check out #3. And here.) It seems that any and all things American, or English, are very de rigeur. There's clothing with slogans in English, a la Urban Outfitters. There's music in English blasting all over the place. There are english words sprinkled into otherwise Spanish conversations. I guess it's a little like what Americans do with French. Only sometimes here they don't even bother to check that the english word in questions is spelled correctly.
Anyway, today I was walking down the street and came across a sign for a clothing store. Actually, it took me a while to figure out what it was. I saw the sign from across the street, had to close my gaping mouth, took a picture to commemorate the moment, and went across the street to investigate. And that's when I realized it was a women's clothing store. How ironic. Here for your viewing pleasure:
